Búzios is a beautiful city and you must have asked yourself: “What is the best beach in Búzios?”.

There are countless attractions and cultural activities, in addition to an exuberant nature that makes the small peninsula an icon of the coast of Rio de Janeiro. If you’re planning your first visit to the peninsula of Búzios (or you don’t know the city well yet), you’ve probably already wondered which is the best among the twenty-three beaches that the resort offers. To answer this, you need to understand the local geography, as there are several types of beaches and the answer will depend on your personal taste and what type of activity you are considering. See the map below:

North part

Note that the peninsula is washed by continental waters in the upper corner. The protection of the continent provides warmer waters since the Atlantic currents, responsible for lowering the temperature, are restricted. They are also calmer due to the lower incidence of winds. The exception to the rule is Manguinhos beach, which has strong winds in September and October, and is even an international sailing streak that attracts windsurfing, kitesurfing, laser and other sailing sports.

In this coastal strip the main beaches are:

João Fernandes and João Fernandinho – beach with warm, calm waters and offering a full service of entertainment and drinks.

Ossos – historical Búzios beach where whales were boned, hence the name. The waters here are also calm and warm.

Dos amores (our favourite!) – this beach is in the far left corner of Baía da Armação. It is necessary to make a small trail through the hill to arrive. The beach is protected by the local geography and is generally deserted.

Tartaruga – popular and usually crowded beach. Its waters are also calmer and warmer.

Manguinhos – we recommend it for sailing enthusiasts. It is possible to find sailing clubs with equipment for rent in case you didn’t bring your equipment. (if you want to book, ask our reception team). Bathing on this beach is not usually so pleasant due to the excess of seaweed and dark water, due to its sandy bottom.

Southern part

The right side of the peninsula faces the open sea, leaving the beaches on this strip exposed to ocean currents (generally cold) and wind. This gives these points a natural propensity for water sports, such as surfing, for example. This is the case of Geribá, the most famous beach in Búzios, which offers a large stretch of sand with tents and chairs. It is also possible to find numerous options of bars, restaurants and equipment rental such as surfboards and stand-up paddle.

In this coastal strip the main beaches are:

Geribá – here the water is generally colder and with strong waves, which makes it perfect for surfing. The sand strip is extensive and offers many leisure options.

Ferradura – this traditional Búzios beach in the shape of (guess what!) horseshoe offers calm waters due to its bay and cold protection. An extensive stretch of sand provides a great spot for sunbathing.

Brava (our favorite!) – despite being smaller compared to the two above, Brava beach offers super trendy bars and beach lounges with top-notch drinks and food! To refresh, just go down the stairs and you touch your foot on the soft, white sand. The waters there are moderately cold and the right corner offers a section of calmer waters where it is also possible to buy drinks and drinks. Tip: if you want to guarantee your spot in one of the beach lounges, ask our team to make a reservation for you!

Foca and Forno – these are two beaches that are located within the same bay. The waters are calm and relatively warm due to the natural protection.
